Banks BBQ Parade cancelled after ODOT denies parade permit

Banks – The Banks BBQ Parade has been cancelled, according to a statement released by the Sunset Park Association on their Facebook page.

Brenda Herinckx, president of the association, says that she received a phone call and an email on August 8 from ODOT, notifying her that ODOT was not allowing any road closures on their highways during the weekend of the total solar eclipse, which is expected to flood Oregon’s streets and highways with close to one million visitors.

“I am truly sorry to give you this news, I cannot permit the parade permit for Banks Sunset Park Association for the closure of HWY 47/102 on the 20th of August due to the traffic volumes expected with the upcoming eclipse event,” read the email from an ODOT employee.

Sunset Park Association says that the parade will resume next year, and apologized to groups and individuals that were preparing their floats and entries for the parade.
