Banks Fire District: Pongratz Road fire is ‘contained’

Manning/Buxton – A three-acre forest fire burning in heavy forested land between Pongratz Road and Pihl Road is contained, according to Banks Fire District public information officer Scott Adams.

“Absent a major wind shift or some other very unexpected change in circumstances, we believe that the fire is stopped from spreading,” read a statement in a media release.

Some crews from neighboring fire agencies were sent home, with crews from Banks Fire District and other agencies remaining on-scene to continue working into the night and possibly into the morning.

No homes were required to be evacuated during the two-alarm fire, though at one point Banks Fire District had advised residents to consider making preparations to evacuate.

In addition to local and area fire crews, private citizens assisted with off-road vehicles to access the fire, which is in difficult to reach terrain.

Banks Fire, Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue, Forest Grove Fire & Rescue, and the Oregon Department of Forestry were among the agencies responding to the fire.

The cause of the fire remains unknown at this point.
