Car crash, downed power lines, and brush fire close Highway 26 near Highway 6

Banks – Highway 26 is closed near Highway 6 and may not reopen until later this evening after a multi-vehicle crash this afternoon took out a power pole and started a brush fire, according to Banks Fire District Public Information Officer Scott Adams.

613 customers in Banks and surrounding areas are currently without power as a result of the downed power lines. Real-time updates from Portland General Electric can be found on their outage map.

The brush fire has been put out, but the highway will remain closed while crews from Portland General Electric work to restore power, a process that will take a considerable amount of time, according to Portland General Electric spokesperson Stan Sittser.
