Chad Pitcher, second suspect in fatal Mountaindale shooting arrested in Wilsonville

Wilsonville – Chad B. Pitcher, a suspect in the September 19 fatal shooting of Michael Sven Arch in Mountaindale was apprehended on Wednesday in Wilsonville by the U.S. Marshals Violent Offender Fugitive Task Force, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

Pitcher, 38, has been charged with murder and is being held without bail at the Washington County Jail.

Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 16000 block of NW Dairy Creek Road at 4:49 p.m. September 19 about a disturbance with a firearm. Upon arriving at the scene, officers found 39-year-old Michael Zven Arch (known also as Reiner Ralph Schmolling, Jr.) of Hillsboro outside of a house who had been shot. Lifesaving efforts were unsuccessful and Arch was pronounced dead at the scene.

At 2:45 p.m on September 28, the interagency Washington County Tactical Negotiations Team (SWAT) took Christopher Stephens, 40, also wanted in connection with the fatal shooting, into custody with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service in Tualatin during a traffic stop at SW Boones Ferry Road and SW Avery Street.

Stephens is now being held at the Washington County Jail without bail on murder charges.
