Forum on homelessness to be held November 15 in Blooming

Blooming – On Wednesday, November 15 at 7 p.m., community members from Gales Creek, Forest Grove, Cornelius, Blooming, Farmington, and the numerous surrounding communities are invited to attend a joint Citizen Participation Organization (CPO) forum on homelessness at the Forest Hills Golf Course, located at 36260 SW Tongue Lane.

The event is hosted by CPOs 10 and 15, with support from CPOs 12c and 13 (Disclosure: The publisher of this newspaper chairs CPO 13).

The event organizers say that the purpose of the forum is to educate the local community on Washington County’s growing homeless crisis, educate the  public on what property owners can do, and give attendees greater compassion to their homeless neighbors.

The event’s panelists include Annette Evans, the Homeless Program Coordinator of Washington County, Annie Heart, Executive Director of Family Promise of Washington County, a non-profit serving homeless families with children by serving them shelter and meals, Brian Schimmel, a leader in the Forest Grove area’s faith-based homeless shelters, and representatives from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. The event will be moderated by Sebastian Lawler, a Forest Grove planning commissioner.
