Man shot dead near Mountaindale, deputies searching for suspect.

Mountaindale – A man was shot and killed just outside of the community of Mountaindale on September 19, police say.

Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 16000 block of NW Dairy Creek Road at 4:49 p.m. September 19 about a disturbance with a firearm. Upon arriving at the scene, officers found 39-year-old Michael Zven Arch (known also as Reiner Ralph Schmolling, Jr.) of Hillsboro outside of a house who had been shot. Lifesaving efforts were unsuccessful and Arch was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police do not yet have a suspect in custody. Police are asking anyone with information to call the Washington County non-emergency line at 503-629-0111

The 16000 block of NW Dairy Creek Road was also the site of multiple disturbances two weeks ago, according to public information officer Jeff Talbot. Deputies were dispatched sometime on September 5 on reports of an altercation had occurred. Later that same day, a woman called at 6:39 p.m. on September 5 to report that someone was shooting at her home. No one was injured during the incident, and a suspect was not found.  It is unclear at this time if these incidents are linked to the September 19 shooting.

This article previously stated that deputies were called to the 16000 block of NW Dairy Creek Road on September 6 regarding two other incidents; however, the deputies were actually called to the residence on September 5. We apologize for the error and have updated the article.
