Oregon Department of Forestry plans broadcast burn in Tillamook State Forest

Tillamook State Forest – If you see smoke off of Highway 6 in the Tillamook State Forest today, it’s likely because of a scheduled broadcast burn by the Oregon Department of Forestry.

Another scheduled burn by Stimson Lumber Company was cancelled this morning.

In a statement released by the Oregon Department of Forestry, it was noted that the fire is permitted and should not spread to any surrounding areas.

If you see smoke in the Coast Range, ODF has asked that 911 or local forestry offices not be called unless it is for a separate fire not related to the scheduled burn.

“These fires will reduce hazard on the landscape, support silvicultural goals, and keep everyone’s fire skills sharp,” read the statement.
