Raise a Glass library fundraiser to be held Saturday, July 7

Banks/North Plains – The third annual Raise a Glass fundraiser, dinner and auction will take place Saturday, July 7 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Pumpkin Ridge Golf Course in North Plains.

At the time of publishing on Monday, July 2 at 10 a.m., only 11 tickets to the dinner remained.

The event is a fundraiser for the Friends of the Banks Public Library, a nonprofit the helps the library to fill programming holes where money does not exist in its budget.

“For the past two years, money from the fundraiser has gone to building the community room,” Library Director Denise Holmes said. “Now that we have a community room there is the opportunity to do a lot more programming than we have in the past.”

Holmes said that in the past, the “Friends” held a plant and book sale in the spring, but that fundraiser was suspended in order to hold the Raise a Glass fundraiser.

Programs the Friends traditionally paid for at the library include supporting preschool story time on Wednesdays, buying books, and supporting summer reading programs, including entertainment and summer awards for the kids who enter the reading challenge. Friends also helps put on other programs, book giveaways and supports other requests the library has, Holmes said.

“The July event is basically the major fundraiser evening of the year with a lot of fun and a good meal,” she said. “There is a fun auctioneer, music, items that are donated by business (for the auction). For instance, the hardware store will donate a major implement. There are tickets to Pink Martini, Phantom of the Opera and gift cards for a lot of different places. There are a lot of different varieties of ways people can come out and support the library. It’s been great fun the last couple of years and we expect to continue that.”

Stephanie Jones, president of the Friends of the Banks Public Library and also a Banks City Councilor, said there is not a set financial goal for the fundraiser.

“We are just hoping to raise as much funding as we can,” Jones said.

Tickets are $50 per person, or $375 for a table of eight, and can be purchased at the Banks Public Library.

The dinner will be a buffet and include a chicken salad appetizer, rice pilaf, garlic cheese potatoes and two glasses of wine or beer.
