Three killed in fatal crash on Highway 26 west of Buxton

Buxton – Banks Fire District was dispatched to reports of a serious two-vehicle crash near mile post 42, between Staley’s Junction and the Dennis L Edwards tunnel on Thursday, August 23 just after 10 p.m.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the head-on crash had resulted in a fatality.

Oregon State Police later released more details in the crash; according to an OSP media relase, a grey 2014 Kia Cadenza was traveling eastbound on Highway 26 when, for an unknown reason, it crossed the centerline and crashed head-on into a westbound red 2010 Lexus HS 250.

The driver and sole occupant in the Kia died of their injuries as a result of the crash.

The Lexus held four occupant; the driver and left rear passenger died as a result of the crash.The front passenger and the right rear passenger were transported by Life Flight to a Portland area hospital.

According to Oregon State Police, speed and lane occupancy were contributing factors in the crash.

Agencies that responded to the crash include Banks Fire District 13, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon State Police, the Washington County Medical Examiner, and the Oregon Department of Transportation.

The highway was closed for several hours to allow for emergency crews to process the scene, and for Lifeflight helicopters to land at Staley’s Junction.
